At EFBA, we’re proud to be a community where women shine in every role, from inspiring teachers and dedicated office team to passionate volunteers and engaged parents. With 80% of our staff identifying as women, our organization reflects the incredible contributions of women in education, leadership, and beyond.
This Women’s History Month, we celebrate not only the women within our EFBA family but also remarkable female figures from the Francophone world who continue to inspire us today.
Women from the Francophone World Who Inspire
Olympe de Gouges – Advocate for women’s rights during the French Revolution, famously authoring the Declaration of the Rights of Woman and the Female Citizen, which called for gender equality.
Sophie Germain – A mathematician who made significant contributions to number theory, despite the societal barriers of her time that kept women from entering scientific fields.
Marie Curie – A groundbreaking scientist who revolutionized the study of radiation and became the first woman to win a Nobel Prize. Her research in physics and chemistry continues to impact the scientific world.
Marie Curie, Olympe de Gouges, and Sophie Germain are just a few of the powerful women who shaped history and continue to lead by example. Their legacies remind us that the contributions of women extend far beyond the classroom, influencing science, art, and society on a global scale. These women have left their mark on history, and their legacies continue to inspire us today.

Women Leading at EFBA
At EFBA, women play a central role in shaping our community and driving our mission forward. From leading French immersion programs to supporting our nonprofit’s growth, their passion and leadership inspire creativity, curiosity, and global citizenship. According to philosopher Carol Gilligan, women’s strong presence in the care economy reflects their socialization toward an “ethics of care” that values relationships and nurturing connections. This perspective, centered on responsibility to others and maintaining interpersonal bonds, naturally aligns with caregiving roles in education and social services.
We’re proud to have women in key leadership roles, including Jeannie Buso, our Academic Program Director, and Julia Peillon, our Cultural Program Director, who lead with passion to ensure every student thrives. Bianca Monaco, our Chief Operating Officer & Head of Technology, and Gabrielle Durana, our Founder & Executive Director, work behind the scenes to build a strong foundation for our organization. Along with all the women at EFBA, teachers, staff, and volunteers, their collective dedication and creativity empower students to reach their full potential.
