Support EFBA’s Giving Tuesday Project
EFBA is dedicated to providing support to all families striving to enhance their child’s level of French in an affordable, accessible, fun way.
This year, we are continuing to strengthen our commitment to Fren
ch education by launching our literacy project with Je lis avec Virgule a free book of 40 story tales in French and a parents guide to lead the way towards a life-long love of reading for Francophone children ages 5-7.
Why launch this project? Multicultural families are often faced with the daunting task of attempting to retain and build their children’s knowledge and literacy of their native language. Although language schools are the obvious solution, many aren’t accessible due to price and location. Lacking this privilege, children may struggle to maintain their bilingualism into adulthood. With your support, we can help.
Testimony
“I would’ve loved it as a kid!”
The daughter of a French immigrant, I grew up in a Francophone household with parents who were committed to ensuring I was bilingual, despite the challenges. Although my parents were able to pass on French culture and language, instilling a love and knowledge of reading and writing was more difficult…
Why? We did not have access to an expensive French school, ideal for promoting bilingual education, but too expensive for our middle class family. Due to this, it wasn’t until studying French in college that I was able to make up for the years lost.
Today, EFBA is creating a parents guidebook to support families just like mine.
Intended for and created by Francophones, Je lis avec Virgule would have been the perfect solution for my parents and I. As a kid I may not have known the difference between “l’accent aigu” and “l’accent grave,” but with Je lis avec Virgule I would have!
