STEM Program: Online STEM-Venturers

Our STEM-Venturers program offers engaging online activities in French focused on science, technology, engineering, and math. Our mission: to spark curiosity in children and teens and perhaps inspire the next generation of STEM professionals through fun, unique, and high-quality experiences.

Hour of Code for all!

About this Event:

On Saturday, March 15, 2025, from 10:00 to 11:30 am PST, in celebration of Women’s History Month, EFBA will offer a free event featuring a 20-minute workshop on major female figures in technology, followed by an Hour of Code session. This event, organized in partnership with Code for Fun, is designed for children aged 8 to 11 and will be conducted in French. Our goal is to inspire curiosity in both coding and the stories of pioneering women who have shaped the tech industry.

Activity:

We will begin with a 30-minute fun and interactive workshop where participants will learn about groundbreaking women in technology and explore how their innovations continue to influence today’s digital world. After this, children will dive into a one-hour “Hour of Code” workshop, where they will create their own video game using the Scratch platform and learn the basics of programming.

Why This Matters:

With women still underrepresented in the tech industry, this event aims to inspire young girls and boys alike to explore careers in STEM. We want to help all children see the possibilities available in coding and tech.

Origin of the Hour of Code

Held each year in more than 180 countries, the Hour of Code has historically taken place in December as a celebration of Grace Hopper’s birthday, an American scientist and mathematician, who was a computer science pioneer. She built the first compiler in 1951 and created one of the first high level programming languages, COBOL

A few words about Code For Fun

Code For Fun is a leader in online and in-person coding programs for kids and teens. Servane Demol, Founder and CEO, believes strongly that computer science and its resulting products have become unavoidable in today’s world. In order to fully prepare new generations to meet the challenges of the 21st century, and to help them become prosperous stakeholders in the global economy, it is imperative that children develop a deep understanding of this field. As of today, Code for Fun has proudly initiated 5,000 students, 50% of whom are girls, to computer science!
