IN-PERSON CULTURAL PROGRAMS
We are happy to announce our cultural activities for the 2023 – 2024 School year!
Throughout the year, EFBA organizes a variety of different programs for children to learn French through play. Immersion in the French language allows children to have fun, dream, and discover, all while in the process of learning.
In addition to reinforcing their language capabilities, these cultural programs stimulate their interest in the French language. They are ideal complementary activities for children who learn French at school or home. The idea that play provides incredible leverage in learning a language is a core part of our mission.
Our three cultural programs are play-based French immersion events.
Little Opera
Several times a year, EFBA hosts Little Opera, which is a cultural outing program for children of Francophone and Francophile families to enjoy fun field trips in French at cultural venues around the Bay Area. Children, accompanied by at least one parent, attend opera and symphony shows while learning more about music and culture.
ONLINE CULTURAL PROGRAMS
Our online cultural activities in French are a great opportunity for students to immerse themselves in French learning and culture, practice French while having fun, and meet new friends!
GOALS OF THE CULTURAL FRENCH PROGRAMS
The aim of cultural programs is not only to increase the frequency and duration of French exposure, but also to vary the language context by broadening the diversity of situations in which the children find themselves called upon to participate, communicate and act.The play-based, engaging form of these programs allows children to increase their personal motivation for learning French and to discover other ways of using the language.
These are not French classes, but leisure activities during which the children will discover many things while having fun and learning French without even realizing it. The main theme of each event is a story or a mission to accomplish. The play-based form of these programs stimulates children to try to understand the action taking place in French in front of them and figure out how they can take part in the adventure that awaits them.
Our team of adults and volunteers is there to guide children in participating in the different activities. The team is made of exclusively French native speakers who are experienced in working with young people, ensuring that the language of communication is French throughout the activities and that each child feels included and happy.
The content and sequence of of the online activities in French and the in person activities follows a plan devised to guarantee an optimal experience for the children. Each program includes free time for games and a meal. These are occasions for making friends and chatting informally with adults to experience authentic and real communication in French.
